The History of Bridgestone Tires

Bridgestone was founded in 1931 by Shojiro Ishibashi in Japan. Japan started slowly producing automobiles in the 1930s, and Bridgestone became the first tire manufacturing company to offer tires nationwide in 1932.

Bridgestone then came to the United States to purchase a tire plant in La Vergne, Tennessee in 1983 from Firestone Tire & Rubber. Bridgestone and Firestone merged in 1988 when the Bridgestone Corporation bought Firestone. Bridgestone recently joined MICHELIN® and Goodyear to become one of the “Big Three” tire companies in the United States. Today, Bridgestone sells tires on six of the seven continents.
